Moving Day Tips & Hints - Save Yourself Time!
Doing this will save you time and keep you organized, and help everyone know where to look for an item.
- Pack early. Did you know, if you pack two boxes a day, in 30 days you will have packed sixty boxes? Try not to leave things to the last minute so you can make sure everything is packed and labeled properly and you aren’t overwhelmed.
- Draw a floor plan, and know exactly where you want furniture placed in the new home before your moving day. Communicate this information with the team.
- Make sure you have all the right packing supplies.
- Utilize wardrobe boxes, medium and small boxes, plastic storage boxes and reusable bags to pack items appropriately.
- Make sure there is adequate parking for the moving truck(s) at both ends of the move.
- Pack dishes sideways NOT flat, and label the boxes on all sides that they are fragile.
- Use gloves to protect your hands while moving boxes and furniture.
- Pack all liquids in 1 or 2 boxes clearly marked “liquids” to avoid spillage.
- Make a list of things in your home that need special attention while moving, and label things that will be kept aside from the moving truck.
- Be sure to label all fragile boxes clearly on all sides.
- Make sure all rugs are rolled up and taped.
- Have all your curtains and window coverings taken down and packed.
- Get rid of any clutter that may be in the way of the movers.
- Defrost all fridges and freezers a few days before the move.
- Pack any medications and personal items in a special location and pack them last and unpack them first to keep track of their location.
- And most importantly, relax and let the professionals do their job!
